I've recently been to Germany and they have very high energy costs there. To compensate, the people are using those new mercury bulbs that operate on much lower power and create the same degree of brightness as traditional light bulbs.
In addition, I've read that people in a town in Alaska lost their hydoelectric power and the town had to rely on diesel generators. This resulted in a 400% increase in energy costs. To offset this, one of the things people did was to offset the increase costs with the mercury bulbs.
A lot of people already know, but I didn't know, that installing celiing fans helps you save on both cooling costs in the summer and heating costs in the winter. You switch the fans to force air down in the summer and up in the winter (thereby pulling the warmer area from the floor to the areas where you will feel it more).
Anyone have any other good ideas on how to save on energy costs?
